Morning

Translation: Marganit W.

Judge: Lieut. Col. Menahem Lieberman

Investigator: Zayed Katish

Defense: Firas Sabah, Ma’amoun Hashim, Judd Kadamani (not present)

On 4.4.16 we reported on three friends who were arrested on the basis of dubious information: chat in the street: the three friends had a laugh together as they talked about weapons. They were promptly arrested, were barred from seeing counsel and were interrogated.

Justice Lieberman wrote in his decision that there was no ground for further detention because there was no evidence. Two were released, the third got remand extension until 7.4.16.

Today we asked the attorneys if the third detainee had been released and we were told, NO, and neither were the other two! They were kept in detention because there was an appeal, and Justice Ronen Atzmon from the Appellate Court decided that even though there was no progress in the investigation, they should wait… maybe there would be some progress in the future.

Decision: remand extension for 7 additional days. The extension will take place at Ofer (will Lieberman be present?)

There were 5 cases in the docket today: three men were arrested yesterday in Israel, after grueling interrogation for up to 44 days at the Palestinian Authority. They are suspected of organizing a three-man Hamas unit. They did not commit any hostile act.

One is Belal Zubhi Mahmoud Hamad – ID 40411783, a minor who has already been in detention for a month. Belal is 17 years 4 months old.

We were able to attend the remand extension hearing (which should have been conducted behind closed doors). Apparently, he was not interrogated as a “minor”. Only when he was about to leave the hearing did it became apparent that he is a minor.

The investigator requested 15 days remand; the judge agreed to 11.

Haa Aladin Imad Haled Shaga’ia – ID 402383004

He was detained by the PA for 42 days. After his release he was arrested in Israel and interrogated.

The decision: 11-day remand extension.

Seif Aladin Halil Azat Dar Hamad – ID 401884630

He was detained and interrogated for 44 days.

Today 11 additonal days of remand extension were granted

Ahmad Majed Muhammad Daoud – ID 401357660

Atty. Ma’amoun Hashim represents him.

The detainee’s mother was let in and they were allowed to talk from a distance.

There is agreement between the sides on a 4-day extension before the case is transferred to the prosecution.
