Afternoon

Etzion DCL:  as last week, we were greeted by a man summoned to Shabak, who had waited a few hours in the entrance hall, andfinally got back his ID card and was told to return tomorrow. This was thesecond time he had come, waited and was not received... The man who spoke to uslast week said that this was the fifth time he had been summoned, had waitedand had not been received. We phoned Nir and asked him to remind Shabak that the man was waiting. Niragreed to talk to them.

We were approached by a man holding an invitation to his wife to reportto Augusta Victoria Hospitalfor an operation. He said that she has cancer, and has already undergonesurgery four times. Before each operation she received from the DCO an entrypermit for Jerusalem. This time they refused to let her enter because there was a mistake in thehospital’s form – a wrong last digit in her ID number. All the other details onthe invitation were correct and could be compared and seen to be the same asthe computer records from the other times she was given an entry permit. Theman explained that this was a secretary’s error, asked that the form becompared with the details in their possession, and they should give her apermit to enter the hospital tomorrow. His explanations were of no avail. Hisrequest was denied. “I don’t know what to do. I have no luck,” he said with adesperate face. Shlomit began to phone to everyone we hoped could help. The manwas indeed unlucky. Most of the phones did not answer, or did answer butrefused the request. No helper was found until Shlomit called Danny. Hedisplayed humanity and goodwill, and ordered that the man be allowed in andgiven a permit. Danny indeed deserves every compliment.
