Afternoon

15.00 – 18.00 pm

Summary: an uneventful shift.

Etzion DCL: in the waiting room of the DCL one young man was awaiting an interview with the Shabak. He has been there for about an hour and a few minutes after our arrival was called in. Another man came to get his entry permit, which was supposed to be ready. He came out promptly holding his permit. No other applicants arrived. We noticed already that on Wednesdays not many people come to the checkpoint.

At the Hussan junctions more and more yellow taxis are parked. A market has not yet been established. Only a friendly coffee vendor approaches us in fluent Hebrew. He even asked us how wecelebrated Independence Day and if we had a meet barbecue (Al Ha-esh).

Beitar Checkpoint: we hear about problems at the Beitar checkpoint and went there to see what is going on. No detaineesinfo-icon were seen there and the traffic in both directions moved undisturbed.

We decided to go to Wallage and watch how the building of the wall advances. It seems indeed that it is very quick. The height of earth mounds being moved from side to side is indescribable and so is the strength of the heavy machinery used. What an enormous expense!
