Morning

Translation:  Suzanne O.

We decided to visit as many villages as possible today, Saturday, with time on our hands, to talk to people and to get to know the area.

Hagar L's details of the route were very helpful.

Za'atra/Tapuach Junction

1:15 p.m.

The roadblock is staffed by Nachal soldiers.  As we arrived a car with three young people was stopped - their papers were taken from them and they parked at the side.

The rest of the cars go through.  After about 5 minutes the youngsters get their papers back and go on their way.

We stayed on for a little to monitor but saw that there were no hold ups.

Huwwara village

1:30 p.m.

There is a military jeep near the village.

Huwwara roadblock

1:35 p.m.

At the entrance to Nablus there are two Nachal soldiers and 2 uniformed policemen with a police van.  One of the policemen screams rudely and violently at us and forbids the soldiers to speak to us.

2 soldiers are also at the exit from Nablus.  Cars come and go; from time to time a car is stopped at random for an inspection of the passengers' papers.

We saw a car with Israeli registration plates allowed into Nablus - in it were 3 young Jewish Israelis and an Israeli Arab driver.

We drove on to Anabta and Kfariat.
