One reason for our presence in the courts is the conviction that the public needs to know what goes on in these trials (even though the public does not necessarily want to know) and to learn the names and details of the Palestinians who are brought before these courts.

When we cannot obtain the lists and protocols of the hearing (which include names and ID numbers), our report is incomplete, as is the case in this report from Justice Captain Noam Briman’s court.

Taer Aziz Halahla – ID 90451079

Defense: Atty. Ahlam Hadad

We wrote in earlier reports about Taer, a detainee who suffers from Hepatitis B.

This time medical documents are presented and the attorney translates them for Taer.

She voices her resentment at the fact that the ultrasound test has not yet been performed.

The judge orders the test to be completed by 1.7.13, the next hearing, but Atty. Hadad is very skeptical (with good reason considering how many times this order has been given by the court). She states that if the test is not performed, she will appeal to the High Court of Justice.

Atty. Nubani represents a 19-year old man who was on his way to the Cave of the Patriarchs (Haram Al Halil) in Hebron to pray. He was carrying a knife (bought 2 years earlier) not knowing that this is forbidden.

The defense asks for an alternative to imprisonment because the man has no prior convictions.

Family members of the detainee are present in court and they are willing to sign releases and post bail for him.

The motion is denied.
