Morning and Afternoon

There were only a few families in the courtyard. They came in the oppressive heat and during the fast of Ramadan to attend a relative’s trial.

Each family had a harsh story to tell.

In Justice Lieut.-Col. Menahem Lieberman’s court I attended the evidentiary hearing in the case of

Mouheeb Hassan Salim Zajarna, ID 402304994 - Case 3570/15

Mouheeb is a young man from the village of Arab Al Ramadin.

See my earlier report where Justice Kedar opined that “when security forces come to demolish a man’s home, it’s hard to imagine this man standing by with just posters protesting the demolition.”

The judge ordered Mouheeb released on bail.

The prosecution appealed and won.

Atty. Ahlam Haddad began to examine the witness – members of the Border Police.

But I had to leave at 16:30.

Military Appellate Court

Judge: Deputy president Lieut.-Col. Zvi Lekach

Prosecutor: Major Leah Tal

Defense: Atty. Munzer Abu Ahmad

Appellant: Siham Ali Issa Batat, ID 995598356 - Case 2287/15

Siham lost her husband two months ago. Her son and her daughter are in prison. She was arrested while visiting her son in prison.

I could not verify the charge against her.

Atty. Abu Ahmad stated that in her interrogation Siham answered all the questions. Some issues are not connected to her specifically. The investigation should be shortened and so should her detention. An alternative to detention should be considered.

The prosecutor said there is a secret file; the investigators worked hard on the case and “the matters are weighty.”

I looked at the elderly widow on the bench and wondered if in this case too the prosecution was making a mountain out of a molehill.

Judge: Major Haim Balilty

Defense: Atty. Munzer Abu Ahmad

Defendant: Myson Mussa Mahmoud Mussa, ID 859694275  Case 2611/15

Myson is here for remand extension. She is accused of trying to stab a female soldier, Liron Israeli.

The judge ordered remand extension until the conclusion of the proceedings.

Arraignment hearing was set for 3.8.15.
