Morning

Anata, A Ra-m (old) Qalandia

( a day after Id El
Adha)

Anata
6:40am

Very quiet with hardly
any car passing through the checkpoint. It is a holiday which may explain
why there was little traffic today. It was nearly totally
deserted.

Old A-Ram 6:52am

As with Anata, very few cars going
through. We waited along with 3 other vehicles f going norht for about 5
minutes until we were given permission to go through. One wonders why it took
so long with so few cars.

Qalandia
7:05am

When we arrived the main terminal
was nearly empty. Only about 8 women some with little children were
waiting for the prisoners's visitation. Two lines were open for
the Palestinians going through and their passage seemed to go smoothly and
orderly. There was an incident when 2 elderly people carrying large
packages were denied entry but after intervention, the soldier allowed their
entry through the disabled access (unfortnately they were refusedpassage
because they had not permit).

By 7:45, the terminal filled up
with well over 100 families waiting entry. At 8:10, 3 terminals were
opened up under the supervision of approximately 8 police,
soldiers, and Red Cross representative each of whom seemed to have particular
responsibility for some part of the traffic flow. The people inside the
enclosed area gave very clear directions on the loudspeakers often slowly
repeating words which seemed unclear to the listeners. They were quite polite
and spoke in a pleasant tone. The flow was orderly, smooth and uninterrupted
and by approximately 8:30, nearly all the waiting families had passed through.

We did not see anybody
waiting for the Matak.
