Afternoon

When we arrived at the Anata checkpoint (at about 2:00 p.m)., there was a backup of traffic extending all the way to the Maaleh Adumim road.  The situation was especially dangerous because it was the time when children were arriving home from school and they were scotting in and out among the vehicles.

We called several numbers until we were finally referred to 02-5898444.  We described the situation and noted that in spite of the huge number of vehicles, there was only one lane open.  The person with whom we spoke said that he would deal with the matter and apparently he did because the problem was solved by the time we checked back later in the day.

The situation at the three Issawiyya corssings remains the same.  The road from Issawiyya to Mt. Scopus remains blocked and the pedestrian passage is monitored by a whole crew of border policemen.  The passageway to the road to Maaleh Adumim  (unmanned) and the one leading to French hill are still one way.

Situation in Al Ezariya and at the Bedouin encampment remain unchanged.
