Afternoon

Anata:  Aside from the accumulation of new garbage and refuse, nothing has changed.  The checkpoint was very quiet with few vehicles and/or pedestrians going in either direction.

There are no changes in the situation with Isawiya.  There is free passage to the road to Maaleh Adumim and to French Hill, but the exit to Mount Scopus remains blocked, although pedestrians and people on Motorcycles could get through if they wish.  There is no longer military presence there.

Azariah has reverted to its previous status from before the influx of funds from USAid which allowed for a sprucing up of the city, expansion of the roads, and a once planted esplanade.  All that is gone although several rather nice looking shops have opened and continue to function.

On the road to Wadi Nar:  the area which might become the housing site for the evacuees from Khan al Ahmar is unchanged from our visit of several weeks ago.  However there are several cement mixers down below the area in ready to go to work when the command is given.  The adjacent Bedouin encampment appears to have added some new buildings (shacks) and some land levelling was done in the area along the road to Wadi Nar.  Here too, trash continues to accumulate making an already inhospitable area even more undesirable
