Third Friday of Ramadan

Anata - Shuafat

We arrived close to 10 a.m. A holiday morning. We crossed through the turnstile into the camp and met our acquaintance who, as always, supervises the exit of bus-loads of children for whom these are important days of examinations.

From this moment on, we saw nothing and felt nothing of the holiday mood.  Only a few people are on the streets, with suitcases; and some men dressed in white robes ("galabiot").  The sadness and filth of the place are shocking.

It was difficult to tolerate the stench of burning garbage.
No words can describe the misery of this refugee camp on its holiday.
